There are many things that can ruin a cruise vacation: sea sickness, norovirus, overeating at the buffet. Now you can add burnt feet to that list. A Carnival Cruise Line passenger is suing the company after he says he suffered severe burns on a ship’s pool deck.
According to a lawsuit filed in Florida, Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez claims he got second-degree burns on his feet while walking barefoot between a pool and deck chairs aboard the Carnival Magic. He alleges the deck surface was dangerously hot and that there were no warning signs. The suit also claims Carnival had prior knowledge of similar incidents, citing dozens of complaints and earlier warnings about the deck material overheating. Nunez is seeking more than $5 million in damages, accusing the company of negligence and reckless disregard for passenger safety. Carnival has not commented.
