Today is National Taco Day.  It’s also a Tuesday . . . “Taco Tuesday” . . . and yes, that’s intentional.

Unlike most holidays, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who refuses to celebrate, because EVERYONE loves tacos.

Here are some taco-related stats, from polls, surveys, and reports online.

2% of Americans have never eaten a taco.  (What are these people doing???)

90% of U.S. adults like to eat tacos . . . and around 83% say they eat Mexican food at least once a month.  17% say they eat it WEEKLY.

71% of us prefer tacos over burritos.

53% of Americans prefer soft taco shells . . . 47% prefer hard taco shells.

The average hard taco fan eats 7.3 tacos a month . . . they’re more likely to enjoy spicy food . . . more likely to be a dog person . . . and more likely to say they’re an extrovert.

The average soft taco fan eats 6.9 tacos a month . . . is more likely to be a cat person . . . more likely to be a night owl . . . and more likely to be in a relationship.

Arizona residents eat the most tacos in one sitting, with 10% of state residents surveyed claiming they eat SIX or more tacos in a meal.

47 out of 50 states chose cheese as their favorite taco topping.  Onions were found to be America’s least favorite taco topping with only 3% of Americans listing onions as their favorite.  (It’s worth pointing out that there’s a difference between being the “least favorite” and NOT being people’s #1.)

When asked for the one topping that can RUIN a taco, cilantro was the most popular answer, followed by black olives.  Both those ingredients are divisive, even outside the context of tacos.

Naturally, a ton of places are offering taco-related discounts and promotions today, although many are through loyalty programs, or require a minimum purchase.  (You can scroll through the best ones, here, here, and here.)

At Chuy’s, you can get a free entree if you dress up as a taco and post a photo on social media.  Also:  Taco Bell and Duolingo teamed up to launch a limited-edition habanero sauce today, with free packets with Doritos Locos Tacos.
