Donkey, a spinoff from the beloved Shrek franchise, is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2028. Eddie Murphy returns to voice the fan-favorite character in an origin story exploring how a donkey became Donkey. Charlie Bean, known for The Lego Batman Movie, will direct, with Matt Flynn co-directing. The spinoff arrives one year after Shrek 5, scheduled for summer 2027, which reunites Mike Myers, Murphy, and Cameron Diaz alongside Zendaya. The broader Shrek franchise, launched in 2000, earned nearly $500 million globally on its original release and became the first animated feature to win an Oscar. The series has collectively grossed over $3 billion worldwide. Story URL
