A rare first-edition Charizard Pokémon card has sold for a record-breaking $1.38 million. The 1999 holographic card received a perfect 10 grading score, making it one of only 123 flawless copies known to exist in the world. Card experts compare this thing to the iconic 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card as a crown jewel of collectibles. Amazingly, the collector who sold the card purchased an entire first-edition Pokémon card set for about $130,000 in 2019, which was a world record at the time. That means the collector got a 20X return on this investment in just seven years.
