The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Verity – $32.6 million
2. Resident Evil – $12.5 million
3. Heart of the Beast – $11 million
4. Primetime – $8 million
5. Digger – $8 million

Verity easily topped the North American box office this weekend, opening with $32.6 million from 3,510 theaters. The Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson psychological thriller added $30 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $62.5 million.

Resident Evil remained in second place with $12.5 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $124.8 million. Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast took third with $11 million, down 45% from its opening weekend, for $38.3 million domestically.

Robert Pattinson’s Primetime finished fourth with $8 million, pushing its North American total to $34 million. Tom Cruise’s costly Digger debuted in fifth with just $8 million from 3,321 theaters. The film, which reportedly cost $160 million to $180 million, added $12 million overseas for a disastrous $20 million worldwide start.
