Movie Theatres Opening In New York City

The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Practical Magic 2 – $30 million
2. Spider-Man: Brand New Day – $8.4 million
3. The Odyssey – $7.4 million
4. Runner – $6.4 million
5. Coyote vs. Acme – $6.2 million

Practical Magic 2 debuted atop the North American box office with $28 million, ending Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s six-week run at number-one but falling short of expectations. The Warner Bros. sequel, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, had been projected to open between $30 million and $40 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day took second place with $8.5 million, bringing its domestic total to about $935 million and putting it within striking distance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ all-time domestic record.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey followed in third with $8.1 million.

New action film Runner, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, opened in fourth with $6.5 million, while Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the Top 5 with $6.2 million.
