The Internet Is Mourning the Loss of the Hot Pockets Crisping Sleeve . . . But It's Been Gone for Years

How can you tell a REAL Hot Pockets aficionado from all the FAKE online fans? They’re NOT suddenly mourning the death of the classic crisping sleeve.

A TikTok is going super viral, where a guy says, “I know we’re in an economic crisis right now . . . because I just got a thing of Hot Pockets, and they don’t even come with the ‘pocket’ anymore, just with the ‘hot.’  You can’t even afford the pocket?  You just have to raw-dog it in the microwave?”

The “pocket” he’s talking about was the silver “crisping sleeve” that you’d place the Hot Pocket inside while it was heating up.

The thing is:  That’s been gone for a while.  They started phasing it out in 2023, and the following year they even had a marketing campaign about it being retired.

At the time, they said they adjusted their crust recipe so that the sleeve was no longer needed.  They also claimed they added 30% more pepperoni.

Let’s be honest:  It WAS probably cheaper for them . . . but they also said that removing the metallic sleeves (or “susceptors”) eliminated 3,500 to 5,000 TONS of paper waste annually.

Bottom line:  Like it or not, the sleeve hasn’t been around for years, so the guy in the TikTok is clearly a Hot Pocket CASUAL.  And so are all the people in the comments, who are expressing SUDDEN OUTRAGE.

Also:  The “pocket” is the crust that’s holding the filling, not the sleeve.

The makers of Hot Pockets haven’t commented on this “new” controversy.
