Squirrel Blamed For Government Internet Outage In Ohio County

A squirrel disrupted phone and internet services across multiple government facilities in Medina County, Ohio, on February 20th. County Administrator Matt Springer disclosed the unusual cause during a recent commissioners meeting, initially believing contractors had accidentally damaged underground fiber cables. The investigation revealed a squirrel had constructed a nest within the fiber infrastructure and gnawed through several lines, affecting the county prosecutor’s office among other government buildings. “It’s hard to make this stuff up,” Springer stated during the meeting. County officials are now coordinating with internet providers and the local fiber network to implement preventive measures against future incidents. Squirrels have established themselves as notorious troublemakers for utility companies nationwide, frequently causing power outages throughout the U.S.
