Kacey Musgraves To Lead Dolly Parton Tribute At 2026 MTV VMAs

Kacey Musgraves will headline a special tribute to Dolly Parton at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27. It marks Musgraves’ first VMA appearance in five years. Parton died in August, and Musgraves publicly mourned her loss on X, writing, “The world feels a lot less sparkly all of a sudden.” During her ongoing Middle of Nowhere tour, Musgraves performed Parton classics “Here You Come Again” and “9 to 5” at Boston and New York shows. At Madison Square Garden, she called Parton “the closest thing we’ve ever had to royalty.” Musgraves is also nominated for Best Country for “Dry Spell.” The show, airing on CBS and MTV at 7:30 p.m. ET, will also feature Madonna opening with her first VMA performance in 20 years.
