A24’s Backrooms dominated the weekend box office with a massive $81.4 million domestic debut, setting a company record and becoming one of the year’s biggest horror openings. The film, directed by 20-year-old YouTube creator Kane Parsons, fueled a strong turnout among younger moviegoers.
Obsession held second place with $26.4 million in its third weekend, pushing its domestic total past $100 million. Disney’s The Mandalorian and Grogu slid to third after a steep 70% drop, earning $25 million.
