If you’ve ever wondered why mosquitoes ignore some people and completely swarm others, researchers may have found part of the answer.
A study was done on 119 adults with three mosquito species, and discovered that different mosquitoes liked people very differently. So, if one person was attractive to one species, that didn’t mean other mosquitoes were lining up for a bite.
The study found that it’s our skin bacteria and the chemicals we naturally release that makes mosquitoes like us the most. And the specific bacteria and chemicals varied depending on each mosquito species.
Researchers are hopeful that this could help develop more targeted mosquito repellents in the future, instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
