James Prante faces DUI charges with serious bodily injury after his wife fell from their golf cart and struck her head on pavement March 1st. North Port police responded to Creek Nine Drive around 9:30 p.m. following a 911 call about the incident. Prante told officers the couple had been “partying at the club” since noon before heading home when his wife tumbled out. The woman remained unconscious and unresponsive, requiring transport to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a trauma patient. Police discovered empty alcohol containers inside the golf cart. Prante failed field sobriety tests, with breath samples registering 0.197 and 0.194 blood alcohol content, nearly two and a half times the legal driving limit of 0.08. The serious injury charge elevates the DUI to a felony offense under Florida law.
