“We are able to claim our honorable veterans” Unclaimed veteran laid to rest in Nashville
The service was held at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery after officials said Wayman had no known family members to claim his remains.
A priest delivered a short sermon during the service, offering prayers and reflecting on Wayman’s life and service to the country. A Veterans Affairs representative also spoke, thanking all attendees and honoring Wayman’s service to our country.
“When the paperwork for Lonnie Wayman came across my desk, it was marked as an unclaimed veteran. But I say that’s incorrect. I say that’s a misnomer, that thanks to the support from the United States military, the good folks at Gupton Mortuary, and all the support I see here today, we are able to claim our honorable veterans and provide them the dignity and honor that they have earned.”
The ceremony concluded with the release of doves, symbolizing peace and a final farewell as Wayman was laid to rest.
