Four new inductees have joined the National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play. Bingo, Care Bears, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and the playground slide were chosen Thursday from a field of 12 finalists. Curator Mirek Stolee noted that bingo, descending from an Italian lottery around 1530, is now popular globally, including at bars and nightclubs among young adults. Care Bears earned nearly one million social media followers supporting their nomination. Pokémon cards were backed by anime and manga fans. Vice President Jeremy Saucier said the slide gives “people of all ages” a “simple, satisfying, and energizing experience.” Inductees must be icons that engaged multiple generations, fostered creativity, or changed toy design.
