Butterball Unveils the "Butterball Buddy," a Turkey-Shaped "Giga Pet" That Assigns Thanksgiving Tasks

Do you remember the handheld virtual pet toys like Tamagotchi and Giga Pets? Well, there’s a new TURKEY version for Thanksgiving. And no, you don’t eat it. (???)
Butterball has launched a “Butterball Buddy,” which is “a turkey-shaped digital device that assigns Thanksgiving tasks to guests . . . like preparation, serving, and cleanup.” (So it’s like a virtual pet . . . AND a Magic 8 Ball???)
This isn’t a high-tech device. It looks like a kids PAGER from the ’90s . . . (if those existed) . . . and the idea is simple: One guest starts with the Butterball Buddy in-hand, waits for a chime and vibration, and gets a task. When they’re done helping, they pass the device to the next willing guest . . . and so on.
If this sounds like a gimmick . . . it is. They say it was inspired by poll stats like this: 85% of Thanksgiving hosts say they want help with preparations . . . but only 38% actually ask for it.
That said, these Buddies are FREE.
Butterball is giving away limited quantities online. The first batch went out yesterday afternoon, and have sold out. And additional drops are scheduled for next Monday, November 9th, and the following Monday, November 16th.
