A Montgomery County, Maryland police dog nearly suffered heat exhaustion while chasing a rape suspect through the woods on a 93-degree day. K-9 “Bud” and his handler, Cpl. Philip Brower, sought relief at a nearby neighborhood pool. The welcoming neighbors allowed Bud to jump in and cool off. “It was easy to tell that he was enjoying it,” Brower said. Bud has since made a full recovery. Brower reflected on their bond, saying, “I spend more time with that dog than any member of my family… they might be police dogs, but they’re family to us.” Bud has since returned to duty, recently helping catch a bank robber.
