Texas Police Chief And Officer Rush Into Bee Swarm To Save Disabled Man

Body camera footage captured Lyford police officers racing into a massive bee swarm to rescue a disabled man unable to flee. The man, who was doing yard work near his home, was found on the ground covered only by a towel when officers arrived. Police opened their patrol car door and pulled him inside while bees swarmed and stung them. Officers located the hive in a nearby empty lot. Bee expert Jimmy Lawrence of Bee Guy RGV warned against approaching swarms, noting bees target the nose, mouth, ears, and eyes due to carbon dioxide detection. Two women were also attacked but recovered. The rescued man remained hospitalized as of July 31st. The hive has since been removed. Lyford police plan additional officer training for future swarm-related emergencies. Story URL
