Savannah Guthrie and her siblings may have known for a while that their mother is no longer alive.

According to a new report, they got a message on February 6th apologizing for Nancy Guthrie’s “inadvertent” death.  But the sender also suggested returning the body for an unspecified amount of money.

Hours after Nancy was reported missing on February 1st, a ransom note from the same IP address asked for $4 million in Bitcoin for her safe return.

Instead of sending the full amount, authorities sent $152 in Bitcoin to the address they were given, hoping that the perp would retrieve it, which would have made them traceable.  But they never touched it.

(For the record, TMZ is throwing some cold water on this report, saying there was no apology note or claim from the kidnappers that Nancy was dead.  But that someone who wanted money to turn in the kidnappers DID imply she was dead by writing “time is no longer of the essence.”)
