Chattanooga Police Officer Rogers rushed into a burning two-story house on May 1st to save a trapped family before firefighters arrived. The officer found flames consuming the front door, walls, and attic when neighbors told him people were inside. Bodycam footage shows Rogers entering the home and helping Rachel Blaylock and her children escape – 4-year-old daughter Marlowe and 10-year-old son Charles. Rogers carried Marlowe while Blaylock followed with Charles down the stairs. After the rescue, the officer grabbed a fire extinguisher to fight flames on the porch. “I tried to thank him that night, and he’s just shrugging it off, like it’s just another day at work, but that’s my little daughter,” Blaylock said. The Chattanooga Police Department noted on Facebook that while officers aren’t trained in firefighting, “they do take an oath to serve and protect.” Story URL
