FIREFIGHTER DONATES KIDNEY TO FRIEND AND FELLOW FIRST RESPONDER

Chicago firefighter Bill Rosales is back on the mend thanks to a life-saving act of generosity from a longtime friend and fellow first responder.
Bill, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disorder, had been quietly struggling for years when he received a shocking phone call from Jason Fuggiti — a firefighter in a nearby community and a friend since high school. Without even telling Bill, Jason had already undergone the rigorous testing process at Loyola Medicine and called simply to announce, “I’ve got a kidney for you whenever you’re ready.”
The kindness didn’t stop there. After the news about Bill and Jason got out, over 30 more people stepped forward to help, including another friend who decided to donate his kidney to a total stranger when he wasn’t a match for Bill.
Jason, a father of two, says his 20-year career as a firefighter made the choice a “no-brainer,” explaining that if they are willing to risk their lives for strangers, helping a brother is easy.
Both guys are now recovering, with Bill finally able to look forward to a healthy future with his wife and 14-year-old son.
