Update: After the Backlash, Hershey Will Be Going Back to the Classic Recipe for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

If you’re boycotting Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs this Easter because you’re upset about the current recipe . . . your nightmare is coming to an end.
Hershey just announced that they’re going back to the classic recipe for ALL Reese’s products . . . starting next year.
A couple months ago, Brad Reese . . . the grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H.B. Reese . . . complained that they’d changed the classic recipe, replacing milk chocolate with “compound coatings” and peanut butter with “peanut‑butter‑style crèmes.”
At the time, Hershey said they’re “made the same [as] always,” but they didn’t specifically deny any of Brad’s claims. Other reports have said that they changed the formulas to contain less chocolate . . . because it’s cheaper.
Even now, they didn’t elaborate on what they changed or what they’re planning to do differently next year. They just said: Reese’s will shift back to “their classic milk chocolate and dark chocolate recipes.”
And, quote, “Hershey is committed to making products consumers love, and that means continually reviewing our recipes to meet evolving tastes and preferences.”
For what it’s worth, Brad isn’t satisfied. He says this is an admission that their “cost-cutting architecture” was compromising the quality. And he also says there’s a “credibility gap” in their “carefully engineered messaging.”
He adds, “If this [change] is true, the people who deserve the credit are the loyal fans who were alarmed by what Hershey was doing. But I’m seeing a lot of red flags here. I think what Hershey is trying to do here is change with PR narrative.”
