An Arizona man was doing yardwork when he was greeted by a surprise swimmer in his pool — a giant lizard.

Eric Johnson was outside his home in Peoria when he heard a loud splash and discovered an Asian water monitor, the world’s second‑largest species of lizard, taking a dip. Wildlife experts say the lizard — which is native to southeast Asia and can grow more than six feet long — was likely an escaped pet. Johnson snapped photos as it swam and then climbed out to sunbathe, before wandering off on its own about 20 minutes later. No one was hurt, and the unexpected pool party ended peacefully.
