Tennessee Department of Transportation driver Chester Hembree assisted with an unexpected roadside birth while responding to what appeared to be a standard emergency call on Interstate 40 in Knoxville. “We were driving on the way to the hospital, and he decided he didn’t want to wait until we got to the hospital,” Katina Few told CBS8. “He wanted to come while we were driving down the road.” Hembree helped deliver Graysen Lee Ketron, who weighed 6 pounds and measured 18 inches. When the newborn didn’t initially cry, Hembree performed airway clearing and stimulation techniques. Few expressed gratitude, stating “I was too in shock to even be able to help direct or think about what to do.” The family later reunited with Hembree to thank their “hero.” Story URL
