Shriek-flation! Candy Costs More Now, and You're Getting Less

You’ve heard of shrink-flation before, but how about shriek-flation? It’s just as scary as it sounds.
If you feel like you’re buying more candy and getting less of it, you’re not imagining things. Halloween candy keeps shrinking, and candy costs have jumped 71% since 2021.
A consumer advocate group said that manufacturers are dealing with higher costs for things like shipping. But the biggest culprit is cocoa prices. Cocoa jumped nearly 144% between 2019 and 2024.
Here’s the most notable candy shriek-flation we’ve seen:
1. Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Assortment . . . The bag is now 17% smaller than it once was.
2. Rolo Party Pack . . . They shrank from 40 ounces to 35.6 ounces while prices increased.
3. Reese’s Miniatures Party Pack . . . They also fell from 40 ounces to 35.6.
4. Hershey’s Miniatures Assortment . . . They were reduced from 40 ounces to 35.9 ounces. (Does that mean less Krackel and Mr. Goodbar? That’s bogus.)
5. M&M’s Party Size . . . They have shrink-flated almost 10% in size since 2019.
