A Staten Island man survived a lightning strike with only minor injuries after being hit while walking with an umbrella in the rain. Thomas Fahmy described a white flash, followed by numbness and severe pain in both feet. WCBS Meteorologist John Elliott clarified that umbrellas don’t attract lightning but do conduct it. Being taller also increases the risk during storms. Story URL
