KitKat Trucks Get “Presidential-Level Protection”

A KitKat delivery truck received a “presidential-level protection” escort this week in Canada. Four unmarked SUVs flanked the valuable cargo ahead, behind and on the adjacent lanes as the truck drove on a Canadian highway.
The security convoy was a marketing stunt by Nestle, which suffered the loss of a 12-ton shipment in Europe that still hasn’t been recovered.
KitKat leaned into that story by hiring a security firm to protect their “high-value cargo.” An Instagram influencer got a tip and photographed the convoy. His post was widely shared with the caption, “KitKat is taking no chances here. Either they don’t want any more break-ins or they got Beyoncé in that truck.” (New York Post)
Cargo theft has quietly become big business in Europe. Organized gangs hijack trucks shipping millions of dollars’ worth of golf clubs, sneakers, lawnmowers, baby formula, olive oil, perfume and chocolate bars. (Newser)
