Authorities in northeastern Indiana are keeping an eye out for a missing alligator that escaped from an animal show operator in Auburn.
Mark Kohlhorst, who runs the Mark’s Ark animal show, says the two‑foot gator, named Irwin, slipped out of its container when he returned home from a show and discovered the cooler empty. Kohlhorst says the small reptile isn’t dangerous and would likely avoid people, but some nearby residents aren’t convinced and worry it could still cause harm. One neighbor believes this isn’t the first time Kohlhorst has lost an animal and recalled another alligator that was found in a pond nearby about 10 years ago.
The alligator is still on the loose, and county officials are now reviewing local rules as neighbors raise concerns about keeping exotic animals in residential areas. (WANE-TV Fort Wayne)
