Texas Corrections Officer Fired For Smuggling Chicken Wings To Inmate

Travis County corrections officer Amos Nyanway, 25, was arrested on misdemeanor contraband charges after smuggling chicken wings into jail for $50. Court documents reveal officials discovered the scheme while monitoring an inmate’s phone calls for an unrelated incident. The inmate told a relative that Nyanway “had provided him with chicken wings after he sent the officer money on Cash App” and specifically “agreed to supply him with habanero mango chicken wings from Wingstop” for the payment. Surveillance footage shows Nyanway receiving a food delivery, eating some wings himself, then placing others on paper towels and handing them to the inmate. The arrest affidavit notes “chicken wings are not provided or authorized to be provided to inmates” under Texas Penal Code 38.114. (Story URL)
