Warner Brothers has always celebrated July 27th as Bugs Bunny’s birthday. The reason — that’s the release date in 1940 of “A Wild Hare,” the first cartoon in which the wascawwy wabbit says his signature phrase “What’s up, Doc.” That phrase, and the witty interplay with Elmer Fudd signaled the character’s development into something unique and distinct from other madcap ‘toon stars.
