South African Town Seeks Help Finding Missing Mannequin
Tourism officials in Nieu-Bethesda, South Africa are asking for public assistance after their beloved local landmark disappeared from a farm dam. The swimsuit-wearing mannequin named Beverly vanished from her usual swimming spot in the water along the road outside town. Local sculptor and artist Ryno Greef installed Beverly about two years ago after being inspired by a Facebook joke about skinny dipping in the small dam. “On a trip to Port Elizabeth, I found a mannequin in a second-hand shop over there,” Greef said. “I thought, ‘OK, this is Beverley — she’s going to be the one.'” Greef suspects multiple people were needed to remove Beverly due to her heavy concrete base. Nieu-Bethesda Tourism posted on social media: “Beverly isn’t just any mannequin — she’s been a quirky, much-loved part of our little town’s charm.” (Story URL)
