Password To Louvre’s Video System Was ‘Louvre’ At Time Of Robbery
The Louvre’s video surveillance system was protected by the password “Louvre” when thieves stole $102 million in jewels last month, a museum employee revealed. Four suspects face charges in the seven-minute robbery, but authorities have not recovered the stolen items. Paris public prosecutor Laure Beccuau said Sunday that “all avenues are being explored” and “at least one person” remains at large. Louvre director Laurence des Cars told French lawmakers the security system “worked perfectly” but admitted “a terrible failure at the Louvre” due to “underinvestment” in perimeter security. Thieves used power tools and a truck-mounted cherry picker to break into the Apollo Gallery, which remains closed. (Story URL)
