Jack Nicholson’s ‘Shining’ Ax Heads To Auction

An ax wielded by Jack Nicholson in The Shining is going under the hammer as part of the first auction from Stanley Kubrick’s personal archive. Bonhams in London estimates the prop will fetch between $40,000 and $65,000 at its February 3 sale. Also included are the iconic blue dresses worn by the film’s eerie twins and a Shining clapboard. Three additional clapboards — from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon, and Eyes Wide Shut — will also be offered. The auction’s top lot is the “star child” model from 2001‘s final scene, estimated at over $1 million. Kubrick’s annotated script for Lolita is expected to draw up to $80,000. Story URL
