1.  “Digger”  (R)

A dark comedy starring Tom Cruise as a ruthless oil tycoon whose reckless arctic drilling accidentally unleashes multiple disasters, including an enormous glacier breaking free, massive flooding from tsunamis, and the threat of nuclear retaliation from affected countries that would wipe out most of humanity.

So of course, he immediately decides to spin it and prove that HE is humanity’s best hope.  Riz Ahmed plays his lead scientist, John Goodman is the geriatric dictatorial U.S. president, and Jesse Plemons is Digger’s grandson.

Profanity Warning:  There are multiple F-bombs in the trailer.

2.  “Verity”  (R)  Trailer

Dakota Johnson plays a struggling writer who moves into the mansion of an incapacitated best-selling author, to ghost write her final novel.  Then she finds a separate manuscript for a secret memoir Verity was working on before the car crash that left her paralyzed, and she becomes obsessed with that story.

Anne Hathaway is Verity, and Josh Hartnett plays her shady husband.

It’s the latest Colleen Hoover novel to get a movie adaptation. She wrote “It Ends with Us” . . . which you’ve heard about thanks to that Blake Lively / Justin Baldoni nonsense . . . plus “Regretting You” and “Reminders of Him”.
