Police in Miami say they’ve cracked an unusual theft case involving avocados.

Authorities arrested a 37-year-old man after they allegedly caught him taking more than 140 avocados from a grove in southwest Miami-Dade County. Deputies say they found bags of freshly picked avocados near the suspect’s pickup truck during a late-night patrol. The fruit was valued at about $852. According to the arrest report, when investigators tried to question the man, he reportedly replied, “Why do I need to speak to you? I was caught stealing avocados.” He now faces charges of grand theft and trespassing and was being held on a $3,000 bond. (WPLG-TV Miami)
