A Florida family got quite a surprise when their home security camera sent an early morning alert. But instead of a package delivery or a neighbor, they found an 8-foot alligator sitting right outside their front door.

The family in Palm Bay says the gator was hissing, growling and even thumping its tail against the house, leaving them frightened to go outside. Police and a Florida Fish and Wildlife trapper responded and safely removed the animal. The homeowner says the camera notification may have prevented a dangerous encounter, since someone could have unknowingly opened the front door or let the dog out. (WESH-TV Orlando)
