Florida’s new “super speeder” law makes it a crime for drivers who exceed 50 mph or more over the posted speed limit or drive 100 mph or more. We keep hearing about the law, because drivers in Florida keep breaking it, and going to jail for it.

The latest case involves a woman who was clocked going 123 mph in a 50 mph zone. 25-year-old Siria Lopez was pulled over and then told deputies that she thought she was allowed to speed because she was driving a Toyota Supra. Not only was Ms. Lopez’s speed more than twice the legal limit, so was her blood-alcohol level. She was arrested and charged with violating the “super speeder” law, DUI, and reckless driving. She is facing up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. (The Ledger)
