Jimbo’s Stupid Criminal: Man Allegedly Set Fire to Home While Singing “Burning Down the House”

 It can be annoying when you get a song stuck in your head.  It can also be destructive.

A 43-year-old man in Pennsylvania named Martin Haigh set fire to a home . . . while singing the ’80s song “Burning Down the House“ by Talking Heads.

And when the firefighters arrived on the scene, he reportedly tried to stop them from going in to put it out.  (It’s unclear if he wanted them to, “Fight fire with fire,” as the song suggests.)  (???)

There were three people inside, but they were able to get out okay. One was treated for minor smoke inhalation, but it sounds like they’ll be fine.

The police asked Martin why he did it, and he said that, “he was having a bad day,” and tried to put a chair inside the fireplace.  They asked why he thought that would be a good idea, and he said, “because it was dirty.”

Martin is facing multiple arson-related charges, and is being held on $1 million bail.
